Bible Study Notes: "A Broken Hearted God, a Broken Human Race, and a Broken World"

BIBLE STUDY NOTES                                      Sabbath, July 25, 2015                                     Bro. Cris Wellington
Topic: "A Broken Hearted God, a Broken Human Race, and a Broken World"

GOD'S BROKEN HEART BECAUSE OF HUMAN SIN, WICKEDNESS & SELFISHNESS
(1) "O Jerusalem, O Jerusalem..."  (Matt. 23:27)--Cry of a Broken Hearted Savior (What was He Crying About?) Note: HOW WE WEARY GOD Isaiah 1:113-15, esp. last phrase of v.15
(2) "And as it was in the days of Noe..." (Luke 17:26-30) (What was happening in Noah's days that we can see happening nowadays? What does all this say about the nearness of Jesus' coming? What should we be doing about this?)
(3) "Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot..." (Luke 17: 28)
(4) "Remember Lot's Wife" (Luke 17:32)/ "For what shall it profit a man...?" (Mark 8:36)/ "And take heed to yourselves, lest...cares of this life..." (Luke 21:34).

HUMAN BROKENNESS
(5) "... Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?" (Luke 18:8)--Human Cynicism: People in general no longer hold to our sacred beliefs, BUT scoff at them & instead walk in their own lusts (See 2 Peter 3: 3);
(6) "... a people laden with iniquity... the hole head is sick, and the whole heart faint... from the sole of the foot even to the head there is no soundness in it..." (Isaiah 1:4-6)--not a pretty picture of human condition represented by Israel's situation;
 (7) "Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots...?" (Jeremiah 13:23)--Humanity can't save/help itself;
(8) "...because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold" (Matt. 24: 12)/  "For nation shall rise against nation..." (Matt. 24:7)

A BROKEN WORLD
(9) "...the great dragon was cast out...into the earth..." (Rev. 12:9)/ "...Woe to the inhabiters of the earth...for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath..." (Rev. 12:12);
(10) "For we know that the whole creation groaneth..." (Rom. 8:22)/
"...and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places" (Matt. 24:7)/

Satan delights in war, for it excites the worst passions of the soul and then sweeps into eternity its victims steeped in vice and blood. It is his object to incite the nations to war against one another, for he can thus divert the minds of the people from the work of preparation to stand in the day of God.

Satan works through the elements also to garner his harvest of unprepared souls. He has studied the secrets of the laboratories of nature, and he uses all his power to control the elements as far as God allows. When he was suffered to afflict Job, how quickly flocks and herds, servants, houses, children, were swept away, one trouble succeeding another as in a moment. It is God that shields His creatures and hedges them in from the power of the destroyer” (Great Controversy, page 589, emphasis/underlining mine).

HOW SHALL WE STAND IN LIGHT OF ALL OF THIS?
Point the people to Jesus and the hope that is in Him. Use texts such as John 3:14-18; Matt. 11:28-30; Isaiah 1:18; 1 John 1:9; John 10:10.
